About

The Kurdistan Deaf Association – Duhok was built from the ground up by the local Deaf community. Everything but the floor was built from the hands of Deaf craftsmen.

President – Karzan Rasheed has been the president of the Kurdistan Deaf Association – Duhok since 2016. He is passionate about Kurdish Sign Language (KuSL) education for Deaf children and their families. He desires to see a KuSL/spoken Kurdish interpreter training program to develop qualified interpreters to provide equal access for Deaf people across the region. When he is not advocating for Deaf rights or overseeing association operations, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.

Partnership Coordinator and Deaf Interpreter – Rizgar Ismail has been the partnership coordinator and Deaf interpreter of the Kurdistan Deaf Association – Duhok since 2018. He attended the local Hiwa School. He is also passionate about Kurdish Sign Language (KuSL) education for Deaf children and their families and gender equality. When he is not participating in partnership meetings or playing soccer, he enjoys spending time at the local tea shop.
